COUNCIL NO CHANCE OF SAVING CATHO JETTY

A state government department will have the final say on whether the iconic Catherine Hill Bay jetty is demolished.

Current owner Lake Coal would have to spend an estimated $4-million to make the structure safe again, and is presently spending $250,000 a year just to maintain it.

Lake Macquarie Council was touted as a potential white knight in the community bid to save the structure.

But Lake Coal says it does not have to lodge a demolition application for the jetty with council, instead that will be decided by the state government.
