NEWCASTLE RESIDENTS DEMAND ACTION ON EROSION
Newcastle Council continues to push for back up to deal with severe coastal erosion – after massive swells pummelled the coast earlier this year.
Stockton residents today met with the State Government to demand more cash for sand renourishment… a request, they say ultimately fell on deaf ears.
A spokesperson for the Deputy Premier Paul Toole has issued the following statement:
Funding has been sought from the Commonwealth’s Coastal and Estuarine Risk Mitigation Program for the approval and extraction of the initial phase of sand renourishment for Stockton Beach from the entry to Newcastle Port.
The NSW government has reiterated its commitment to work with Newcastle City Council to pursue longer-term options for mass sand renourishment at Stockton Beach.
