The Hunter Wildfires pulled off a massive upset defeating the highly favoured Sydney Uni at Sportsground No. 2 on Saturday.
Sydney Uni sitting on 3rd place on the ladder, met a very committed Newcastle squad in a tight tussle that was decided by the reliable foot of fly-half Connor Winchester landing a 3 pointer courtesy of a penalty. The Wildfires scrum was a dominate force making life difficult for the visitors. Uni had a chance to take the lead in the dying moments, but the penalty kick was unsuccessful cementing a 16-14 win to the Wildfires at the full-time whistle.
