FLOOD WATCH FOR NEW SOUTH WALES RESIDENTS

Thousands of New South Wales residents are now preparing to be inundated by floodwaters as the freak weather system heads north.

There are more than 6000 people who have been told to evacuate the Hunter region now and another 5000 have been told to prepare to leave their homes.

Towns along the Hunter River are the main focus for emergency services today as the waterway is expected to reach higher than 13 metres, which is worse than the floods in March for the region.
