NSW PREMIER CALLS FOR CHANGE TO ISOLATION RULES
Premier Dominic Perrottet today said it’s time to rethink the seven-day isolation period in a bid to alleviate pressure on the state’s health system.
NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet has applauded the retention of pandemic leave payments – and called for a consideration of further change.
“Certainly, during the winter months, we need to keep that in place,” he said.
He said the “uniform view” at National Cabinet had been that the payments must stay in place until the end of September at least.
“COVID is going to be with us for some years to come,” he said.
Perrottet said that after the winter months, governments and health teams should look at adjusting isolation requirements.
We need to “see whether the seven-day isolation period suits the circumstances of today”, he said.
He said he had raised the issue with Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly.
However, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese claims “now is not the time” to revise isolation rules, as the state deals with another surge in virus cases.
