CHAOS AS SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS HIT WITH HEAVY RAIN
Music festival Splendour In The Grass is making its long-awaited return after an enforced pandemic hiatus – only to be hit by terrible weather conditions.
Festival-goers have taken to social media complaining of waiting up to 15 hours in line in line to access festival grounds only to be told campsites have been closed.
Wet and muddy conditions causing chaos at the North Byron Parklands as festival-goers call for refunded tickets, while others have suggested the event should be cancelled.
As Splendour in the Grass organisers posted on social media that the heavy rain and flooding around Byron Bay meant campers and vehicles could no longer be accepted.
People still travelling to the festival have been asked to head to Byron Events Farm at 35 Yarun Road, Tyagarah.
“This does not include Accessible, Flashcamp and Tent City patrons who will still be accepted at NBP,” Splendour said in their message. There will be free buses between Byron Events Farm and the festival at Parklands for patrons.
“We thank you for your patience here and big shout out to our staff who are working around Mother Nature to get you in here safely,” the festival organisers said.
Splendour In The Grass is taking place this weekend, from July 22 to July 24. Headliners include Gorillaz, The Strokes, and Tyler The Creator.
