Hunter’s housing crisis in the spotlight
One of the biggest issues the Hunter is facing is a lack of affordable housing.
Now there are plans to address that, with the state government adopting all recommendations given by a regional taskforce… but some claim it’s too little, too late.
A Department of Planning and Environment has told NBN News that a number of immediate measures we undertaken, while it ensured it could improve the housing situation in regional NSW in an effective and sustainable way.
“We undertook a range of immediate measures including updating the statewide housing policy; setting up a Regional Flying Squad to assist councils in assessing development applications to fast-track housing proposals; and launching the $30 million Regional Housing Fund to help 21 councils address the Taskforce’s recommendations at a local level, and deliver new infrastructure and open space projects,” the spokesperson said.
