Body of man found in Tweed River
Police officers have recovered the body of a man in the Tweed River, close to the NSW-Queensland border, after a large scale search was mounted for a missing swimmer.
The body is yet to be formally identified, but police say they believe it is the swimmer’s – a man aged in his 20s.
The man’s body was found in the water about 7pm.
Both Queensland and NSW Police launched the search yesterday.
Surf Life Saving Australia, NSW Ambulance, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, Queensland Marine Area Command and volunteers from Marine Rescue NSW all participated.
A report will now be prepared for the coroner.
A moderate flood warning is in place for the Tweed River as a low pressure trough unleashed over NSW yesterday.
