Two southbound lanes of the F3 Freeway, west of Newcastle were closed for a short time this afternoon when a four wheel drive, laden with camping gear caught fire.
Four occupants escaped the blaze which added further delays to the heavy holiday traffic heading south.
Meanwhile police are generally pleased with how holiday drivers have behaved this Easter long weekend, with the majority heeding the warnings.
New traffic arrangements at Buladelah eased some of the traditional frustration.
