The numbers have been crunched and after a long struggle to pull its books out of the red, Byron Shire Council has posted a quarterly saving of almost $290, 000.
It means council can expect to start the next financial year with a working surplus almost double what was previously forecast.
But council still intends to raise rates 4.19 per cent over the next financial year.
