HNE HEALTH REJECTS CARDIAC TREATMENT IDEA

Hunter New England Health has rejected a proposal that would see patients suffering from serious heart conditions treated in Taree.
Currently any public cardiac patient whose treatment requires a catheter lab must got to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital, even though the privately owned Mayo Hospital has one.
The Lower Mid North Coast Medical Staff Council wants the health authority to enter into a public-private partnership with Mayo Hospital, so patients can receive life saving treatment near home.
But Hunter New England Health says transferring patients to Newcastle is the safest option.
