Fears over Ponga’s future after collision
Newcastle Knights captain Kalyn Ponga’s immediate playing future is up in the air, after suffering his fourth concussion in 10 months, colliding with Asu Kepaoa during the round two NRL match between Wests Tigers and Newcastle Knights at Leichhardt Oval.
The captain was forced to watch on as his team did everything it could to lose at Leichhardt, but still managed a 14-12 win.
Fellow Knights star Jacob Saifiti is also facing a long stint on the sidelines after he was sent off for what the NRL’s match review committee has deemed a “reckless” high shot on Jake Simpkin.
If he accepts the charge and pleads guilty, Saifiti will be banned for five matches. If he and the club choose to fight the high tackle charge, he will be suspended for six weeks should the charge be upheld.
