Two fisherman saved by Lake Macquarie volunteers
Two fishermen aged in their 20s have been taken to hospital after being plucked from the water off Moon Island by volunteers from Marine Rescue Lake Macquarie.
The fisherman experienced engine trouble just before 9am this morning, as they tried to get the vessel restarted they were hit by waves which capsized the boat leaving both men in the water.
Both fishermen were wearing life jackets at the time, one however had trouble inflating his life jacket and ended up smashed on the rocks leading into deeper water.
One of the men suffered from an abdominal injury, hyperthermia and lacerations to his arms and legs.
“He had swallowed a bit of water,” Marine Rescue Lake Macquarie Unit Commander Jim Wright said.
The crew on board administered first aid and transported both men to the Swansea RSL wharf where they were met by NSW Ambulance Paramedics and taken to hospital.
