COUNCIL AWARDED FLOOD MANAGEMENT FUNDS

Newcastle City Council will receive $46,000 to improve local flood management.
Minister for the Environment, Rob Stokes, Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Stuart Ayres, and Liberal Candidate for Newcastle, Karen Howard made the announcement today.
$26,000 will be used for a scoping study for the Morgan Selwyn floodway in Merewether Heights, which will examine flood levels and evaluate the benefits of voluntarily purchasing and removing one or more properties in the floodway.
An additional $20,000 will go towards city-wide flood warning signage.
The funding comes from the 2014/2015 round of two programs – the New South Wales Floodplain Management Program and the Floodplain Risk Management Grant Scheme.
