JOYCE WRITES TO PREMIER ABOUT SHENHUA MINING LICENCE

Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce has written to Premier Mike Baird urging the state government to block a mining licence for a $1 billion coal mine on the Liverpool Plains, near Gunnedah.
It follows the decision by federal Environment Minister Greg Hunt to conditionally approve Shenhua’s Watermark project.
Landholders have been arguing that mining and agriculture can’t co-exist on or near the black soil plains since 2008.
The Chinese company still has to go through two more government processes before it’s given the final nod.
