The much-anticipated signing of a National Disability Insurance Scheme agreement between the federal and New South Wales governments took place in the Hunter today.
People with a disability in the Hunter, along with their families and carers will be among the first to access the scheme.
The Minister for Disability Reform, Jenny Macklin today said, “It is the biggest launch site in Australia, so 10,000 people here in the Hunter region will come into the scheme starting 1st of July.”
The Federal Minister joined her state counterpart Andrew Constance at Newcastle’s House With No Steps.
The NDIS will give people with a disability more control over the care and specialist support they receive.
