Logging in Newry State Forest halted until court hearing

Forestry Corporation says it has voluntarily stood down logging operations in Newry State Forest until 4pm on Friday until an application for an injunction is heard by the Land and Environment Court.

It comes after Elder Uncle Micklo successfully applied to the Court seeking to allow (GOOM-BANG-GIA) Gumbaynggirr Elders to survey the logged sites and assess any cultural heritage damage.

For weeks protestors have camped at the site, in the hopes of halting work…

A Forestry spokesperson says operations have been conducted in line with strict conditions and the indigenous community was consulted.
