CALLS FOR LOCALS ONLY PERMITS TO BE INTRODUCED ON BALLINA BEACHES

A locals-only permit for 4WD access on all South Ballina beaches – that’s the idea of Greens MP Tamara Smith.

She’s written to Crown Lands requesting Ballina Shire Council be given the power to introduce the system.

“We saw recently with Operation Thor hundreds and hundreds of large trucks, vehicles, 4WDs on South Ballina beach and that is just unacceptable – it’s a public safety issue,” Ms Smith said.

If approved, it’s hoped the permits will be in place in time for summer.
