Paddleboarders feared missing off Nambucca Heads found safe and well

Two paddleboarders feared missing off Nambucca Heads on the NSW Mid North Coast have been located safe and well following an extensive search.

The pair were reported missing off Wellington Drive about 6.30pm yesterday and were last seen about one kilometre offshore, between Nambucca Heads and Scotts Head.

A land and sea search resumed at 8am, between Nambucca Heads and South West Rocks, but rescue crews were told to stand down due to challenging conditions.

Police confirmed they spoke with two men matching the descriptions of the missing persons earlier today.

“The pair confirmed with police that they had been in the water at that time before returning home safely,” it said in a statement.

“Police wish to thank the media and community for their assistance.”

Marine Rescue NSW had called off a search for the pair at about 10am due to rough conditions.

“Conditions were challenging for our volunteer crews with 25 knot winds combined with a one-and-a-half metre swell,” said inspector Steve Raymond.

“The professionalism and commitment displayed by our volunteers both on-water and in radio operations last night and again this morning has been exceptional.”
