BYRON COUNCIL RATE RISE TO FUND AGED INFRASTRUCTURE

Byron Shire Council is preparing for the difficult task of trying to sell a proposed rate rise of between 7.5 and 12.5 percent over four years to more than 15,000 ratepayers.
Council says the increase is desperately needed to fund aged and crumbling infrastructure that’s struggling to cope with a growing community and high visitor numbers.
Many of the Shire’s roads, footpaths and buildings were built in the post-war era, making them more than 70 years old.
Ratepayers will be asked to provide feedback on which of the rate rise options they prefer.
