UNIONS CALL ON HUNTER TO FIGHT CUTBACK TO EMERGENCY SERVICES

Unions have issued a call for the Hunter community to join the fight against state government cutbacks to emergency services.

“If they’re going to cut 15,000 jobs and take 1000 jobs out of the Hunter, people are really going to feel it.” said Adam Kerslake from Unions NSW.

Heath Aland from the Fire Brigades Employees Union says firefighters fear up to 10 local stations could be taken off-line amid a $70-million budget cut.

“Worried because it not only affects our safety being out there and having a back up crew following us as well but it’s more about the community.”

Unions representing health and education workers are also involved in the campaign.
