Toowoomba’s Mathew King has taken out Robbie McEwen’s Gran Fondo Challenge at the Gold Coast cycling festival.
King climbed six kays up Beechmont in just under 17 minutes… beating McEwan himself, who finished in fifth spot.
“But I think the big performance is by the more than thousand people who came out and rode the course and all made it safety to the finish.”
Brisbane’s Jody Willet won the women’s division, completing the climb to the top of the Gold Coast hinterland in just over 17 minutes.
