ALI DAY WINS COOLANGATTA GOLD

Ali Day has become just the third man ever to successfully defend his title at the iconic Coolangatta Gold.

The Mooloolaba athlete admitted his start wasn’t all that great, but he pushed hard right to the end, and it paid off.

”I got out of the swim and worked it on the board and ran as hard as I could”

Meanwhile, North Burleigh’s Elizabeth Pluimers won her crown.

The 26-year-old overtook last year’s winner Brodie Moir in the 41.8-kilometre long course, to win by seven and a half minutes.

”From the start, the gun going, you got to go hard… as you can and get a bit of a lead before you come back into a wind which i just happened to do, that was fantastic…and it just gave me that buffer all the way…”
