Newcastle MP Tim Owen has announced he will not recontest his seat in the 2015 election.
Mr Owen said he was shocked and dismayed by revelations over recent weeks regarding political donations at the Independent Commission Against Corruption.
The Liberal MP addressed the media briefly this morning, but refused to take questions.
In an emotional statement, he said he gave his heart and soul to the city and will finish his term.
