The lead detective in the Surfers Sniper case has been stood down from duty.
The senior detective was charged by the Crime and Misconduct Commission last week over claims he used heavy handed tactics against the alleged shooter’s girlfriend.
The officer is accused of kidnapping Rick El Masri’s partner and demanding she tell police where the weapon was.
The car salesman has since been acquitted of firing the gun that hit an innocent man.
