Two men were taken to John Hunter Hospital on Wednesday night, following a serious crash near Newcastle.
A 24-year-old man was driving a Nissan Silvia coup with a 19-year-old passenger, on The Weir Road at Barnsley at about 7.30pm, when the car veered off the carriageway and hit a tree.
The driver was able to get out of the car, but the passenger was trapped for more than two hours.
Both men remained in hospital overnight, the younger man will undergo surgery for a fractured femur.
