A 20-year-old man has been arrested after a woman was injured in a car crash at Lake Macquarie this morning.
Police allege the man, who was driving a station wagon, collided with the rear of a Toyota Hilux on the M1 at Morisset, sending it over a bridge and into a creek.
The female driver of the Hilux was trapped for some time before Police Rescue removed her.
She was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital with serious injuries.
The male driver, who holds a provisional license, was uninjured and arrested at the scene.
Motorists are warned to expect significant delays north bound.
