Gosford City Council has refused a contentious proposal to redevelop the Avoca Beach Theatre, citing a lack of community support and safety risks.
The plans included adding four cinemas to the site, as well as a cafe, gallery, five residential units and a basement car park.
The application came under intense scrutiny from the community, with council receiving over 1500 letters and signatures in opposition.
Meanwhile, council also met with representatives from the Bulldogs, Sea Eagles and Roosters today, to announce that two extra NRL games will be played at Central Coast Stadium this season.
