A 50-year-old man has died and a 59-year-old woman is in a critical condition in John Hunter Hospital following a two car crash at Warrell Creek, near Macksville just before 6.30 this morning.
Police believe the man was driving his Ford Falcon north and crossed onto the wrong side of the road before colliding into the Nissan four wheel drive.
The Pacific Highway was closed for almost five hours as emergency services cleared the scene.
Mid North Coast Police are continuing investigations into the cause of the crash.
