A child is in a serious but stable condition in an unnamed New England hospital with a suspected case of meningococcal.
If it’s confirmed, it’ll be the third case of the disease identified in the Hunter New England region this year.
Close contacts of the patient have been prescribed clearance antibiotics, and it’s not believed to be linked to any other case.
In 2014 and 2013 there were 11 confirmed cases, nine in 2012 and 15 in 2011.
