RED BEATS GREEN IN NHRU

A late try to Brendan Jackson has handed The Waratahs a thrilling win over Merewether in the Newcastle and Hunter Rugby minor semi.
Sam Rouse got the Greens off to a great start – his solo effort out wide making it five-nil.
The Tahs hit back with a persistent effort close to the line, Alain Miriallakis crashing over.
Merewether was back in front when Michael Dan finished off a solid backline move.
But the Greens suffered a major blow when Sam Gilmour was stretchered from the field with a knee injury.
The two sides continued to trade blows until the final whistle, with the men in red just scraping home.
