The down-turn in the coal industry has led to BHP Billiton announcing more job cuts at its Mount Arthur Mine near Muswellbrook.
The company says 290 jobs will go due to low thermal coal prices and that the cuts are necessary to ensure the mine’s ongoing viability.
Around one thousand people will remain employed by BHP Billiton at its Mount Arthur operations.
