A shock for beachgoers this afternoon with a fire sending a large amount of smoke drifting over Merewether near Surf House.
The blaze broke out in shrubs above the retaining wall of the carpark, next to the Baths.
Firefighters were able to extinguish it in a matter of minutes – only for it to re-ignite hours later.
