A man has been charged over a crash at Wickham yesterday, which claimed the life of a 36-year-old woman.
Jennifer Bates was waiting to give way at a roundabout on Hannell Street while on her scooter, when she was struck by an out of control ute.
The impact, sent both the car and the scooter crashing through a nearby fence.
Mrs Bates was taken to John Hunter Hospital, but she couldn’t be saved.
Just after 1pm the same day, a 31-year-old-man attended Newcastle Police Station, where he was later charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, drive manner dangerous and fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death.
He’s been granted conditional bail and is due to face Newcastle Local Court on February 2.
