As temperatures climbed into the 40s in the Hunter today, staying cool became the main priority.
The Hunter River was a prime place to cool off in Maitland, with a well-worn rope swing at Lorn the best place for a splash.
The Levee shopping precinct was almost deserted, as shoppers did their best to stay out of the scorching sun.
