Tamworth Council has allocated $250,000 to press ahead with its plans for the Regional Aquatic Centre.
The funds will help develop concept plans for the facility, as well as preparing a business case and cost estimates for the project.
The centre is expected to be built near the sports dome and the Sporting Centre of Excellence.
Council wants it to be shovel ready by the end of 2018.
