FOUR CHARGED WITH ALLEGED FRAUD OF TWO ELDERLY WOMEN
A group of four people will face court after allegedly defrauding two elderly women out of more than $40,000 on the Central Coast.
A 91-year-old woman from Erina was allegedly contacted by a man back in February, who claimed he had found her purse.
Police say the woman was asked to confirm personal details to authenticate her identity, and subsequently had more than $29,000 taken from her account.
Police were able to link the alleged fraud a similar incident that occurred in 2016.
In the second incident, a 93-year-old woman allegedly received a phone call from a man claiming to be the manager of a bank in November last year, stating the woman’s wallet had been found, and requested she confirm a number of personal details to authenticate her identity.
The woman later informed police that she had more than $12,000 taken from her account,
Following inquiries, a 38-year-old man, two 36-year-old men, and 30-year-old woman were arrested in August.
They were charged with a range of offences, including dishonestly obtaining property by deception, and dealing with proceeds of crime.
