TWO MEN ARRESTED FOLLOWING ALLEGED CAR CRIME SPREE IN NEWCASTLE

Two men have been arrested after allegedly breaking into cars in Merewether and Hamilton South yesterday.
Newcastle police were called to Hamilton East after a man was seen acting suspiciously around parked cars just before 9.30 on Tuesday morning.
The 53-year-old man was arrested after officers seized a number of items allegedly stolen from cars Merewether and Hamilton South.
Later that afternoon, police were again called following a report of a man loitering around vehicles in a car park in Frederick Street, Merewether.
Police arrested a 47-year-old man when they found property allegedly stolen from two cars in the car park, as well cannabis.
Both were charged with a string of offences and will face Newcastle Local Court in March.
