TWO MEN ARRESTED FOLLOWING MEREWETHER CRIME SPREE
A man has been left with serious head injuries, and a taxi driver robbed during a crime spree at Merewether, near Newcastle.
Around 1pm yesterday, two men allegedly forced their way into a Watkins Street unit, where a 64-year-old man was allegedly assaulted with a metal tyre lever.
The resident managed to make his way to the front of the unit complex, where a passer-by assisted.
The pair then left the address in a taxi, before allegedly robbing the 39-year-old driver of his takings, and demanded the PIN for his personal ATM card.
Two men, aged 24 and 34, were later arrested in a Morgan Street hotel.
They have been charged with a string of offences, including reckless wounding.
The pair were refused bail to face Newcastle Local Court later today.
