RFS crews are beginning to contain a bushfire at Salamander Bay in Port Stephens.
The blaze started on Monday evening, with the flames coming dangerously close to Salamander Bay Shopping Centre.
The fire also came close to nearby properties along Foreshore Drive and Sandy Point Drive.
Overnight, it did reach a Watch & Act status, but it is currently at an Advice level.
It’s hoped today’s cooler conditions will help firefighters gain the upper hand.
