An elderly woman has suffered severe head injuries after crashing her car on the Pacific Highway north of Herrons Creek just before midday.
Both lanes were affected for several hours as emergency services worked to free the woman from the vehicle.
She was later airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.
