WOMAN ARRESTED AFTER POLICE PURSUIT COMES TO CRASHING END
A woman is in hospital after crashing her car while trying to flee from police in Singleton last night.
The 45-year-old failed to stop when police signalled for her to pull over a random breath breath test on the New England Highway.
Officers say she crossed the median strip and drove away but police managed to pull the driver over a short distance later.
When police approached the Mazda 3, the woman accelerated, nearly hitting another car.
A pursuit began for a short time but came to a crashing end when the Mazda hit a guard rail on the Hunter River bridge near Campbell Street, then a Toyota Prado.
A woman and two young children were inside the Prado and suffered minor injuries. They were taken to Singleton Hospital and have since been released.
The 45-year-old behind the wheel of the Mazda had to be freed from the vehicle by Fire and Rescue before being arrested and taken to John Hunter Hospital.
Charges are expected to be laid.
