TEENS ARRESTED FOLLOWING MAITLAND BREAK-INS
A group of four teens, aged between 13 and 14, have been arrested after several break-ins in the Maitland area.
Police began investigating the crimes after a number of incidences, including a break-in at a Rutherford shopping centre and a Maitland motel.
At about 10:30am yesterday (Friday 14 February 2020), police went to the shopping centre where a 13-year-old boy was detained by security. He was arrested and taken to Maitland Police Station.
Following inquiries, investigators arrested two girls, aged 14, at a Rutherford home at about 11am. They too were taken to Maitland Police Station.
At about 1:40pm, a 13-year-old boy, accompanied by his mother, also attended Maitland Police Station where he was arrested.
The group were charged with a series of crimes, including aggravated break and enter dwelling in company – steal, enter inclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse, and dishonestly obtain property by deception.
Three of the teens were refused bail to appear at a children’s court today (Saturday 15 February 2020.) One of the teens was granted conditional bail to appear at a children’s court on Friday 27 March 2020.
