AFL SUSPENDED, NRL AND A-LEAGUE UNDER PRESSURE
The 2020 AFL season been suspended after just one round, and the AFLW season has been cancelled, with no premiership to be awarded, due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The move comes after multiple state governments announced shutdown measures to combat COVID-19.
The NRL and A-League now face growing pressure to postpone their seasons.
AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan confirmed the decision came after a meeting with the AFL commission.
Games will be suspended until May 31, 2020 with the league to review the situation at the end of April to determine whether a further suspension is required.
All training will be suspended and the league will work with clubs to determine a course of action.
McLachlan calls it the “biggest financial crisis” in the AFL’s history and says that cost-cutting measures will come next.
