Thousands of tonnes of garden waste will soon be recycled at a new, state-of-the-art facility at Wallsend’s Summerhill tip.

Newcastle Council has awarded the contract for the $24 million project, which is set for completion in 2022.

Initially, around 20, 000 tonnes of organic material will be recycled each year – that will grow to 50, 000 when fully operational.
