It will be some time before children can return to the playground at Cessnock McDonalds, after the equipment was destroyed in a suspicious fire overnight.
Crews from Cessnock, Abermain and Kearsley Fire Stations were called to the fast food restaurant at around 3.20 this morning, to find the play equipment well alight.
Firefighters battled the blaze for around 40 minutes before it was extinguished.
The blaze did impact the inside of the building as well as some exteriors.
Firefighters remained on scene for around two hours before handing the job over to police.
Anyone with information is being urged to come forward.
