POLICE ON THE HUNT FOR TWO MEN AFTER HAWKS NEST ASSAULT
Police are on the hunt for two men after a man was assaulted on the mid-north coast on the weekend.
The 56-year-old was walking along Curlew Avenue at Hawks Nest when the duo approached him at around 11:30 on Saturday morning.
Police say one of the men grabbed him by the shoulder and demanded he hand over his wallet before punching him in the face.
The victim fell to the ground and was further assaulted.
“His assailant then tried to wrestle the victim’s wallet away when the victim reached up and took a firm hold of his assailant’s testicles,” said a NSW Police spokesperson.
“Upon doing this the assailant commenced to let out a loud, prolonged, high pitched squealing which caused his mate to flee and attracted a passerby’s attention, who came to the victim’s aid.
“At that time the victim released his iron fisted grip on his assailant’s genitalia, allowing his assailant to run off, albeit with a strange and pronounced awkwardness to his stride.”
The victim suffered bruising and swelling, but didn’t need any hospital treatment.
Police are investigating what they describe as a “cowardly assault” and are calling on anyone who may have seen or heard anything to come forward.
The men are both described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in their early 30s, between 170cm-180cm tall, with slim builds and short dark hair.
One of the men is further described as having facial stubble and missing a number of teeth.
Police are also appealing for the male driver who stopped to render assistance to come forward, as he may be able to assist police with their inquiries.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
