FARMERS TO RECEIVE HELP AFTER BEING PLAGUED BY LOCUSTS

Landholders across the North West have been threatened by the growing number of locusts stretching across their farms.

But yesterday, Northern Tableands MP, Adam Marshall, announced that free support and pesticides will now be available.

This is thanks to a quick response from the NSW Government.

Mr Marshall said the distribution of Chlorpyrifos pesticide to farmers in Moree, Goondiwindi, North Star, Yetman and Warialda is well underway.

“So far more than 3,000 litres of chemical have been distributed by LLS, with plenty more available. Multiple treatment options are also available privately through normal rural supply businesses.”

If locusts are left untreated, they can be detrimental.

“Locusts can destroy everything in their path, hence why the government has responded so quickly getting help out the door and onto farmers’ properties,” Mr Marshall said.

Those affected should contact t the LLS Moree Depot on 1300 795 299.

Farmers have also been urged to continue reporting outbreaks in order to tackle the issue across the state.
