UNIVERSITY OF NEWCASTLE AWARDS TWO PRIME MINISTERS HONORARY DOCTOR OF LETTERS
Two former Prime Ministers have been recognised by the University of Newcastle, for their contributions to the nation.
John Howard and Julia Gillard were today awarded an Honorary Doctor of Letters.
Mr Howard in turn praised the uni for its role in politics.
“The fundamental role and challenge of a university is to encourage free and open thought, and free and open debate.” – John Howard.
Also honoured – Aboriginal educator Dr Bob Morgan, and Ms Dianne Allen, for their service to the university.
