SHOTS FIRED AT POLICE DURING PURSUIT IN TAMWORTH
Two men have been arrested after gun shots were fired at police during a pursuit in Tamworth early this morning.
Officers were patrolling the area in an unmarked vehicle at around 2.45am when they noticed a Ford Territory leave a fast food restaurant.
Police attempted to stop the Ford as it travelled down the New England Highway.
When it failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated, travelling through multiple suburbs including Calala, Nemingha, Kootingal, and Tamworth.
During the pursuit a passenger allegedly leaned out the window and aimed a firearm at police, before firing shots at the bonnet and windscreen.
After an hour long pursuit, road spikes were deployed causing the Ford to veer and crash into the fence of a golf course on Duri Road.
The occupants, aged 28 and 22, escaped on foot but were caught and arrested a short time later.
A shortened firearm was located in the Ford.
The men were taken to Tamworth Police Station where they remain in custody.
We will have more details tonight at 6.
